Pavements + Recorded Q&A (15)

As Pavement reunites for their sold-out 2022 tour, this Hollywood biopic, stage musical, and museum exhibition blur fact and fiction in a genre-bending tribute directed by Alex Ross Perry.

From Alex Ross Perry, acclaimed director of Her Smell and Listen Up Philip, comes Pavements, a wild, genre-blurring portrait of '90s indie rock legends Pavement. Premiering at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, the film fuses archival footage, mockumentary, ironic jukebox musical, and a satirical biopic starring Joe Keery as Stephen Malkmus.

As the band gears up for their sold-out 2022 reunion tour, Pavements dives into the surreal staging of a Pavement musical, a fan-made museum, and a hilariously clichéd Hollywood adaptation, all featuring the real band alongside a cast of actors and comedians. With editing by documentary visionary Robert Greene, the film playfully unpacks fan obsession, myth-making, and the absurd mechanics of fame.

This screening is followed by a recorded Q&A with the film's director Alex Ross Perry, which is exclusive to cinemas.
