Agora (15*)

SAFAR Film Festival

Agora SAFAR

In a secluded town in Tunisia, several people that are thought to have vanished re-emerge from the distant past.

A local police inspector, Fathi, alongside a doctor, Amine, try to understand the reasons behind their disappearance and their sudden return. The enigmatic case couldn’t be kept hidden from the public eye for long, creating fast, vivid tensions in the community. The whole plot unfolds under the eyes of two spectators: a blue dog and a black crow.

In his third feature fiction, Tunisian auteur Alaeddine Slim continues to expand his visual exploration around the theme of disappearance. The film premiered at the 2024 Locarno International Film Festival, winning the Pardo Verde Award, which is given to a film that effectively addresses ecological issues.

Screening as part of SAFAR’s GHOSTS strand, it will be introduced by the strand curator Saeed Taji Farouky.
