The Wedding Banquet (AD)

Andrew Ahn's heartfelt and hilarious reimagining of Ang Lee’s classic 1993 film delves into new queer family dynamics, and the challenges posed by cultural traditions.

Lee (Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon) and Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) are a couple grappling with the emotional and financial toll of repeated failed IVF attempts. Living in their guesthouse are Angela’s best friend Chris (Bowen Yang, Wicked) and his boyfriend Min (Han Gi-chan), an art student from a wealthy Korean family.

When Min’s visa nears expiration and pressure from his family intensifies, he proposes a deal to Angela: a green-card marriage in return for funding their next IVF round. But their carefully laid plan is thrown into chaos by the sudden arrival of Min’s traditional grandmother, determined to plan the wedding banquet.

Based on the much loved classic from 1993, Ahn's remake is both hilarous and life-affirming in equal measure.
