London Symphony Orchestra: Half Six Fix – Copland

with Sir Antonio Pappano

Kick-start your evening with a 60-minute Half Six Fix concert. Introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.

Aaron Copland’s Third Symphony contains everything the American composer is famous for: breathtaking vistas, moments of forceful intensity and plenty of skittish humour. Plus, a final movement based on the Fanfare for the Common Man that is as uplifting as it is beautiful.

It all tallies with Copland’s suggestion that he was ‘reaching for the grand gesture’. Composed in the dying days of World War II, the Symphony No 3 would no doubt have offered US audiences a glimpse of sunnier days to come.

The LSO’s huge experience in film music will come to bear on this vast, descriptive work that calls also for an impressively large battery of percussion instruments.

This performance will end at approximately 7.30pm, with no interval (timings subject to change).

Produced by the London Symphony Orchestra.
