London Symphony Orchestra: Half Six Fix – Stravinsky

with Ryan Bancroft

Conductor Ryan Bancroft in front of a wall looking into the camera

Kick-start your evening with a 60-minute Half Six Fix concert. Introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.

Premiered in Paris in 1910, three years before The Rite of Spring, Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird breathes music of extraordinary colour and richness, much of it influenced by his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov.

But the composer’s retelling of this Russian tale of love and courage hints too at his burgeoning style. Enjoy the rich, beautiful harmonies that push the boundaries of traditional music, and feel the excitement of the rhythms and melodies that paint a fantastical world of mythical lands and creatures.

The LSO is joined by American conductor Ryan Bancroft for his debut appearance with the LSO. In this Half Six Fix concert, he introduces Stravinsky’s ballet, giving an insight into the music and what makes this piece so special.

The concert will finish at approximately 7.35pm (timings subject to change). Please note there is no interval.
