Land and Freedom - 30th Anniversary Screening + Screentalk with Ken Loach, Rebecca O'Brien and Ian Hart (15)

Land and Freedom

Thirty years on, Ken Loach's stirring, epic and award winning drama about international volunteers fighting for the Republic in the Spanish Civil War, followed by a ScreenTalk.

A constantly relevant and moving work about solidarity and commitment in the face of Fascist authoritarianism.

Based on the true stories of international brigade volunteers, who stood with the Spanish Republic during the Civil War, it follows the experiences of David Carr (Ian Hart) a Communist worker from Liverpool who joins the militia.

With a vivid portrayal of the training, battles, camaraderie and the essential political debates, the film immerses us in the unfolding conflict. Importantly, it does not shy away from the internal tensions and betrayals by the Republican side.

Ken Loach, Rebecca O'Brien (Loach's long time producer and collaborator) and lead actor Ian Hart will be in conversation with Gareth Evans after the screening, alongside other key crew members present.
