The Burdened (12A) + ScreenTalk

SAFAR Film Festival

Three young children stand by a wall looking out over a desert city.

Join SAFAR Film Festival as they round off their ninth edition with The Burdened, followed by an online Q&A. The film receives its UK premiere as part of the festival.

Aden, Southern Yemen. Isra’a and Ahmed put all their efforts into offering a normal life and education to their three young children. When they find out that Isra'a is pregnant again, they have to make difficult decisions guided only by their family's interest.

The Burdened offers a striking portrait of modern day Aden and a rare glimpse into the everyday realities of Yemeni families, dealing with the fallout of economic collapse and war.

The Burdened was nominated for the Panorama Audience Award and won the Amnesty International Award at Berlinale in 2023.
