Ayanna Witter-Johnson & LSO Percussion Ensemble

Photo of Ayanna Witter-Johnson

Composer-cellist-singer Ayanna Witter-Johnson appearing with the LSO Percussion Ensemble brings the promise of a vibrant, jazz-infused evening.

Combining alternative R&B with classical – and with influences from soul, hip hop and reggae too – Witter-Johnson is the definition of an eclectic soul. Building on Unconditionally, a love song for her mother (‘nothing comes between me and you’), she takes to the stage with the LSO Percussion Ensemble for the premiere of a brand new piece. Paying further homage to her mother and the Ghanaian West African Dance troupe of her youth, Forever speaks to Witter-Johnson’s earliest memories of a lasting love for dance and music.

All this alongside selections from ‘formidable musician’ (Telegraph) and regular LSO Percussion Ensemble collaborator Gwilym Simcock, hauntingly beautiful melodies from Joe Locke and energetic, rhythmic ingenuity from Makoto Ozone.
