Ninjababy (15*)

A young woman writes in a notebook while looking at an animated baby on a plain wall, in a still from Ninjababy

Young graphic designer Rakel (Kristine Kujath Thorp) finds herself in an unexpected situation: already 6-months pregnant and highly ambivalent, in this humorous Norwegian comedy drama.

Rakel is an almost-graphic designer, but still looking for her direction in life, when the big news hits her. First order is to find out if the baby’s father is the very sweet and romantic Mos (Nader Khademi), who falls for her, or the rather less charming ‘Pikkjesus’ (Arthur Berning).

Along the way, there’s no typical discovery of a previously dormant maternal instinct for Rakel (even though she’s not indifferent), which offers a refreshing perspective, as do the not-too-cute animated ‘ninjababy’ that Rakel conjures to join her on her journey.

With refreshing humour, naturalistic style and a pleasing element of farce, this film adds something distinctive to the unexpected pregnancy story.
