Guildhall Chamber Orchestra

conducted by Joshua Weilerstein

Image of conductor, Joshua Weilerstein

Guildhall Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Joshua Weilerstein in this concert that shines a light on works by Polish, British and American composers.

Featuring Roxanna Panufnik’s harp concerto, Powers & Dominions, alongside her late father’s Harmony, a poem for chamber orchestra, this evening celebrates the power of music in bringing people together.

‘I’m on a mission to shout from the rooftops the beauty of all these different faiths’ music. It’s about bringing us together’ (Roxanna Panufnik, Gramophone).

William Grant Still composed over 150 works, including Mother and Child, originally a movement from his 1943 Suite for Violin and Piano and later expanded for string orchestra.

Staying in America, the performance concludes with Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring suite. Originally a collaboration with choreographer and dancer Martha Graham, the resulting score has become an enduringly popular concert work that is performed in halls across the world.
