Summer of Soul (...Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (12A)

Sly Stone plays for a large crowd of people at the music festival

An opportunity to see the musical and historical hidden treasure that was the 1969 Harlem Culture Festival.

To think of music in 1969, we often think of ‘that’ festival.

The Summer of Soul is a documentary that teaches us that in the same year, there was another. The Harlem Culture Festival. An alternative, with equal legendary status and cultural impact on those who attended. Although filmed at the time, the festival has never been shared before.

In 2021, esteemed musician and director, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, showcases the event to the world. With appearances from iconic Black American artists such as Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone and Mahalia Jackson, Summer of Soul presents itself as one that cannot be missed.
