What We Left Behind

Summiting Everest is seen as one of the greatest of human achievements, a triumph of determination over adversity. But there are over 200 climbers still on the mountain who didn't make it down.

What We Left Behind is an immersive experience using soundscape, projection and physical theatre to create a dream like world, where some senses are magnified, others rendered useless. 

The work explores the atmosphere of the 'Death Zone', the mountain's highest point. Where the air is so thin that climbers suffer from oxygen deprivation, snow blindness and often complete delirium.

Limited to six audience members per performance. 

Warnings:

This is a physically challenging interactive experience, all participants are advised to wear trousers and flat shoes; flip flops/sandals/stilettos are unsuitable. Some scenes may be unsuitable for sufferers of claustrophobia. May contain strobe lighting. Participants will not be able to carry bags or large coats during the experience. Open Lab Showcase

'What We Left Behind' is part of two evenings of raw performance from Barbican Open Lab's emerging artists after their developmental residencies in the Barbican's Pit Theatre. Open Labs give artists the chance to experiment in a working theatrical space without the expectation of a final product.
