Keira Knightley and Jessie Buckley star in this humorous drama about 1970 Miss World and the heated involvement of the Women's Liberation Movement.

In 1970, the Miss World competition took place in London, hosted by US comic, Bob Hope. With over 100 million viewers, it was the world's most-watched TV show.

Claiming that such competitions demeaned women, the newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement gained overnight fame by invading the stage and disrupting the live broadcast of the beauty competition. The show's result caused further uproar when Miss Grenada became the first black woman to be crowned Miss World, turning the Western ideal of beauty on its head.

Featuring an all-star cast, including Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Lesley Manville, Philippa Lowthorpe's film champions female solidarity, offering multiple perspectives on what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated world.
