On general sale Friday 8 September

The City of London Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra join forces to perform Mendelssohn's choral epic Elijah – an intense biblical drama brought to life by a beautiful and powerful score.
More opera than oratorio thanks to rich orchestral colour, stirring choruses and world class solo performers, the work follows the story of the great prophet Elijah - an important figure in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The piece is full of drama: earthquake, wind, fire and drought, famine, flood, resurrection and ravens.
The oratorio was immediately taken to the hearts of the British audience for whom it was written, and will be given an exciting interpretation with South African baritone Njabulo Madlala in the title role. ‘The South African baritone, Njabulo Madlala, riveted every listener in the hall with his musical storytelling... the walls of the Wigmore Hall shook with terror’ (The Times)
The concert will help to raise funds and awareness for the City-based charity The Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund, which supports ex-prisoners and their families, to help them stop offending and build a new life.
