National Open Youth Orchestra Open Rehearsal

A group of young people in a orchestra, one boy is playing the trumpet and two girls in the background are playing the violin.

Find out what the National Open Youth Orchestra get up to at one of their monthly rehearsals.

The National Open Youth Orchestra is a world first. It offers a progressive environment where talented young disabled and non-disabled musicians rehearse and perform together, pioneering a more inclusive orchestra model for the 21st century. This year, members are preparing for their debut London concert, which will bring together musicians from across the three NOYO centres in Bournemouth, Bristol and London.

Join them as they open their doors for this open rehearsal, where you'll find an unusual make up of acoustic and electronic instruments creating a brilliant sound: from violins and a harp, to synths, electric guitar, percussion and brass. They will explore the Beethoven-inspired repertoire they are rehearsing for their concerts later this year, taking place on 26 April in St George's Bristol and 9 May at the Milton Court in London.

Entry will be given on a first come first served basis. There is limited space for audiences in the rehearsal room so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

This Open Rehearsal is an opportunity to meet Members from the orchestra's London centre as they prepare for their debut London concert on 9 May  at Milton Court. This afternoon, they will come together to explore Beethoven’s Sonata 29.

The National Open Youth Orchestra provides a progression route for some of the UK’s most talented young disabled and non-disabled musicians. If you’re interested in playing live music with a dynamic, pioneering ensemble, then come and find out more about this ambitious orchestra.

Applications to audition will be open on the website at noyo.org.uk between 1 - 31 March 2020. More information about the application process will be provided at this Open Rehearsal.

This is an opportunity for any young and aspiring musicians to find out more about the group – performing artists and families welcome. Those interested in inclusive music-making and ensemble work are also invited to join us.
