The Cleveland Orchestra/Welser-Möst

Thomas Adès at 50

An image of Franz Welser-Möst conducting the Cleveland Orchestra with great enthusiasm

Igor Levit joins one of the truly great US orchestras and Franz Welser-Möst in Mozart at his most playful, Scriabin at his most romantic, and Thomas Adès at his most thrillingly original.

Igor Levit’s ‘tonal allure, intellectual drive and technical brilliance’ (The New Yorker) at the keyboard have propelled him to the peak of his artistic game. Tonight he plays with The Cleveland Orchestra, alongside Scriabin’s lush Second Symphony and Thomas Adès’s stunning new Angel Symphony.

Any one of these things would be worth hearing in its own right; and in Thomas Adès’s 50th birthday season, his new symphony – based on his internationally acclaimed opera The Exterminating Angel – has already attracted widespread attention. But together with the chance to hear Levit play Mozart, or Welser-Möst in a prime slice of high Russian romanticism, this concert will be a major occasion.

This performance will end at approximately 9.45pm, including a 20 minute interval.
