Paulinho da Viola

photo of Paulinho da Viola showing his head and shoulders framed against a background of different shades of blue

Renowned sambista, and one of Brazil’s best-loved singer-songwriters, Paulinho da Viola celebrates 50 years since his breakthrough onto the Brazilian music scene.

Paulinho is one of Samba’s great ambassadors, and an heir to the legacy left by musicians such as Cartola, Candeia and Nelson Cavaquinho. His shimmying bossa nova beats and gentle melodies are drenched in sunshine and still sound fresh, while staying true to tradition. Paulinho is best known for his timeless hits which include ‘Coração Leviano’, ‘Dança da Solidão’, ‘Foi um Rio que Passou em Minha Vida’ and ‘Muidinho’.
