Unsettling (15*) + ScreenTalk with director Iris Zaki

A group doing yoga in the open air.

An innovative documentary draws out the insights of a West Bank community on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. With its creator, Dr Iris Zaki, in conversation.

Grierson Award-winner Dr Iris Zaki sets up a pop-up film studio in Tekoa, an Israeli settlement on the West Bank where none of the residents are keen to talk to the media. Her simple provocation proves both artistic and impactful in enabling a non-prescriptive conversation with its inhabitants.

Making clear that her political views do not align with theirs, Zaki poses some difficult questions and is confronted with some equally difficult but also surprising responses.

A fresh cinematic insight into the long lasting Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this documentary is somewhere between an artistic practice and political activism, unsettling viewers and views alike.

To follow, Iris is in conversation with Head of Cinema Gali Gold.
