Soft market testing

The Barbican Centre, in collaboration with the City of London Corporation, has launched an early-stage engagement process to explore potential future uses for Barbican Exhibition Halls 1 and 2. This exercise relates to phase two of the Barbican Renewal programme.

These substantial and currently vacant spaces sit at a pivotal location in the Square Mile and represent a rare opportunity to reimagine how they might once again contribute to the creative and civic life of the city.

We are now inviting expressions of interest from organisations across the creative, commercial and civic sectors with innovative ideas on how to bring these unique spaces back into public and productive use.

Ideas may range from long-term uses to meanwhile activity or partnership models – particularly where they contribute cultural value, broaden public engagement, generate new income and support sustainability and inclusivity.

While no decisions will be made at this stage, this soft marketing test will help inform our future planning and potential procurement. The Barbican Exhibition Halls are expected to be available for redevelopment from 2028.

A questionnaire and information pack are available on request, and site visits for interested parties are taking place on the following dates:

Tuesday 24 June: 10am-11am
Thursday 26 June: 9:30am-10:30am
