Happyend (12A)

Teenagers with security recognition around their faces

Neo Sora’s sci-fi feature imagines a teen uprising in a near-future Tokyo, emptied by cultural and geological catastrophes.

At their oppressive school, wannabe DJs Yuta (Hayato Kurihara) and Kou (Yukito Hidaka) chase their secret passion for dance music while dodging the ever-watchful cameras that track and broadcast every misstep.

Unsure how to resist, the teens weigh their options between traditional protests and a wave of spectacular, subversive pranks.

The first fiction feature after Sora's moving documentary tribute to his composer-performer father, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus, Happyend is a celebration of resistance, friendship and joy, set to the beat of a hypnotic techno soundtrack.
