The Secret of Kells (PG) + Éiru

Family Film Week

two animated characters in a garden

A double bill of beautiful animations, full of magic and ancient Irish mythology.

In The Secret of Kells, twelve-year-old Brendan lives in the Abbey of Kells, a remote medieval outpost under siege from raiding Vikings. One day a celebrated master illuminator arrives from foreign lands carrying an ancient but unfinished book, brimming with secret wisdom. This beautiful beginning to Cartoon Saloon’s folktale trilogy is a visually ravishing masterpiece.

And in Éiru, the enchanting new short film also from Cartoon Saloon, a young girl is desperate to be a part of her warrior clan’s fights, but when she volunteers to discover why the water in their village has dried up she learns that being a champion can take many forms. A bold and powerful story that explores the balance and understanding between humans and the natural world.
