Samuel Beckett: Cascando

Pan Pan Theatre

a colour photo of hooded figures wearing all black walking across the Barbican highwalks

Accompany Samuel Beckett’s curious figures into an uncertain future. Dressed in dark cloak and given headphones, you’ll be guided around the Barbican Highwalks on this rhythmic, immersive journey.

Listen as you are introduced to the deeply riveting yet broken narration of Voice, a man hopelessly trying to finish a story. The only character is Woburn, never heard but identified by his same old coat. And then there’s the tremendous presence of Music, rising in a wave of electronic strings.

Featuring the melodic voices of Irish actors Andrew Bennett and Daniel Reardon, Cascando is transformed into an absorbing outdoor experience in which you are part of the spectacle. Pan Pan Theatre bring visceral energy to Beckett’s 1963 radio play, which poetically pits words against music. The celebrated Dublin-based company last visited here in 2015 with their hit, All That Fall.
