Uncut Gems (15)

Adam Sandler as a jewellery dealer holding up a gold chain

Adam Sandler plays a jewellery dealer with a severe gambling addiction in this intense drama from the Safdie Brothers.

This mesmerising and overwhelming drama directed by the Safdie Brothers (Good Time) sees Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, a dealer selling jewellery to the rich and famous. But every time he makes a sale instead of paying his ever growing debts he places high-stakes bets and hopes for a positive outcome.

Balancing family, friendships, business and the debt collectors makes for a tough time for Howard.

  • ‘In its unforced, gripping, black-comic chaos, Uncut Gems resembles nothing so much as a super-violent, feature-length episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.‘
  • ‘The Safdies use New York City in ways that haven't been seen since films in the '70s. [...] You hear people expressing surprise when Sandler gives a good performance. There should be no surprise.‘
