Lunar New Year Premieres

with Tangram

Members of Tangram stand together with their instruments.

What better way to ring in the Lunar New Year than with new music?

Following a sold-out debut in January 2019, Tangram return to LSO St Luke’s, interweaving folk melodies with brand new compositions.

This year's Associate Ensemble at SOAS University of London, Tangram is the rising artist collective opening up spaces beyond the China-West dichotomy, remixing ideas of what Chinese and contemporary classical music can be.

Tangram will present music by LSO Soundhub composer Alex Ho and alumni of all three LSO composer schemes, with musicians from Yo-Yo Ma's Silkroad Ensemble, Park Lane Group's Young Artist Series, and BBC Young Musician percussion finals. The evening will culminate in three world premieres from acclaimed composers Alex Ho, Jasmin Kent Rodgman and Raymond Yiu.

The concert will be preceded by a free panel discussion with Alex Ho and Jasmin Kent Rodgman, and ethnomusicologists Rachel Harris (SOAS) and Shzr Ee Tan (Royal Holloway), who will explore how transnational Chinese artists engage diasporic narratives through music.
