The Third Orchestra

Hyelim Kim plays a wooden flute with other musicians in the background

Imagine an orchestra without boundaries, with players from all over the world drawing from a wealth of global musical traditions and languages – and discover The Third Orchestra.

Following a week of intensive workshops, a new ensemble present their first performances, from formal structure, to improvisation, to electronica. Peter Wiegold is the catalyst, filling the intimate underground setting of the Pit with music that transcends genre, creating its own landscape of sonic exploration and groove, and pulling together the talents of individual voices such as Hyelim Kim, Alice Zawadzki, Max Baillie and Shri.

A keen musical explorer, Wiegold has engaged with numerous forms of non-Western music-making across his career, and has worked musicians as diverse as folk singer Sam Lee, the Chinese Silk String Quartet, and musicians from Uzbekistan for a project with BBC Proms. Currently, Peter is the director of freewheeling performance venue Club Inégales welcoming many different musicians to collaborate with his band.
