Parent & Baby Screening: Bel Canto (15)

Ken Watanbe and Julianne Moore stood in front of a dressing room mirror.

A dramatic love story unravels as Julianne Moore and Ken Watanbe get caught up in this cross-cultural hostage drama.

Moore plays Roxane Coss, a glamourous American soprano who agrees to perform at a diplomatic dinner doubling as the birthday celebrations of a wealthy Japanese industrialist.

Set in an unnamed South American country amidst a dictatorship, guerrilla rebels storm the affair with captives and captors forced to live together for months, slowly getting to know one another with lives ultimately lost and bonds forged transcendent of language.

An adaptation of Ann Patchett's bestseller brought to life with an impressive cast of global talent, including German actor Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others) and French cult star Christopher Lambert alongside Oscar-winner Moore and Watanbe.

US 2018 Dir Paul Weitz 102 mins
