Parent and Baby Screening: Vox Lux (15)

A bejewelled Natalie Portman in a fur jacket performing in a stadium

An electric Natalie Portman rises to the precarious heights of pop superstardom from the ashes of a national tragedy.

Treading the thin line of satire and spectacle, Brady Corbet's second feature is a timely examination and warped portrait of celebrity in the Age of Terror.

Celeste (played in turn by Raffey Cassidy and Portman on thrillingly tempestuous form) is the survivor of a mass shooting at her Staten Island high school who rises to fame after a memorial performance goes viral. Following this meteoric ascent and loss of both innocence and privacy, we find a jaded Celeste mounting a comeback after a scandalous incident that derailed her career.

Featuring new songs by Sia and an original score by Scott Walker.

US 2018 Dir Brady Corbet 110 min
