Topsy-Turvy (12A) + ScreenTalk with Lindy Hemming

Oscar® Creatives

Jim Broadbent and Lesley Manville in Victorian costume.

Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming joins us following Mike Leigh’s gloriously entertaining musical about Gilbert and Sullivan.

British cinema master Mike Leigh tells the story of how, during a creative dry spell, the partnership of the legendary musical-theatrical writers Gilbert and Sullivan almost dissolves before they turn it all around and write The Mikado.

Set in the 1880s, this flamboyant musical is glorious for many reasons, most notably Lindy Hemming's flawless costume design that won her an Academy Award as well stellar lead performances from Allan Corduner and Jim Broadbent.

To be followed with Hemming in conversation, whose prolific career in costume design spans Four Weddings and A Funeral, through Brosnan’s Bond and Nolan’s Batman, to her most recently having reinvented Wonder Woman and Paddington.
