Blackout - Guildhall School at Tower Bridge

Immersive video projection and sound installation

Blackout Guildhall School at Tower Bridge

Video design artists from Guildhall School create an immersive video projection & sound installation in Tower Bridge’s Bascule Chamber, inspired by the Blitz photography of Arthur Cross & Fred Tibbs.

During the Blitz, when the Square Mile was decimated by high explosive and incendiary bombs, two City of London Police Officers rushed out into the aftermath to photograph the damage.

Inspired by the photography of Arthur Cross and Fred Tibbs, a new immersive video projection and sound installation will transform Tower Bridge’s Bascule Chamber – a unique, subterranean space normally out of bounds for everyday visitors. This show will explore the hidden world of the Cross and Tibbs Collection offering a dramatised narrative that explores the characters, the landscape and the impact of the Blitz across the City, at Tower Bridge and beyond.

Guildhall School, the City of London Police Museum, London Metropolitan Archives and Tower Bridge have worked together to create the story and give a thoughtful and poignant insight into the life of a police officer, during one of London’s most dramatic historic periods.

BA Video Design for Live Performance at Guildhall

Video designers studying on the Guildhall School's BA Video Design for Live Performance programme are behind the creation of this immersive video projection and sound installation. This degree programme provides specialist training in the rapidly-expanding field of projection and video-based arts forms, with students working on a range of projects with professional designers, programmers and animators. Projection mapping techniques are used by commercial brands in advertising, product launches, VIP events, music festivals, live events, and theatre productions. Guildhall School’s close working relationship with professional organisations, such as the Barbican Centre, allows us to collaborate in providing high-quality services for companies holding events and conferences.
