Imagining Ireland

Martin Hayes playing the fiddle surrounded by a dust effect

Some of Ireland’s finest writers and performers – including The Gloaming’s Martin Hayes and actor Stephen Rea – come to London for a one-off concert of word and music exploring Irish life in England.

The words are just as vital as the music, with musicians and authors coming together to celebrate the enormous contribution Irish music and literature has made to UK culture. Heading up the bill is the new quartet led by Martin Hayes (The Gloaming), featuring Iarla O'Lionaird and Radie Peat of Lankum.

Singer-songwriter Lisa O'Neill mixes traditionals with her own compositions, pop band whenyoung play a song of Shane McGowan's and Michael J Sheehy (Dream City Film Club) sings of Irish life in England. Writers include Eimear McBride and poet Martina Evans, who have both written extensively on music and life in London, as well as Timothy O’Grady (I Could Read The Sky), Joseph O’Connor (Star of The Sea), and Melatu Uche Okorie (This Hostel Life). Completing the bill are actor Stephen Rea and documentarian Fergal Keane (The Story of Ireland).
