Irreversible entanglements in front of a brick wall

An arresting display of sonic improvisation and expressive poetry from ‘liberation-minded free jazz collective’ Irreversible Entanglements.

Formed in 2015 for a Musicians Against Police Brutality event in NYC, Irreversible Entanglements make music that looks to the past for influence but is not constrained by tradition. All participants in the free jazz continuum, their playing is both urgent and unpredictable – compositions and improvisations build and undulate, taking the listener into unexpected sonic locations. The tone of each piece is driven by Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother’s fiery poetic narrations of Black trauma, survival and strength. The result is music that is powerful and beautiful – jazz music with a message and a purpose.

Opening the night is special guest composer, saxophonist and sound experimentalist Matana Roberts who has worked across improvisation, dance, poetry, and theatre, and has most recently garnered acclaim for her ongoing series entitled Coin Coin.
