LSO Eclectica: Chinese Strings and Flutes

East Meets West - NB Change of Start Time

classicalmusic_2018_li-weiqin

Virtuoso cellist Li-Wei Qin crosses continents and spans centuries in this era-defying concert with London Symphony Orchestra players and conductor Lee Reynolds.

Fusing Chinese folk music with classical cello and contemporary compositions, the LSO brings this eclectic programme to London after performing it in Wuhan, China. Alongside pieces by Haydn, Tchaikovsky and Ye Xiaogang, the concert features the London premiere of Raymond Yiu’s Butorflēoge.

LSO Principal Flute Gareth Davies also breathes life into Raymond Yiu’s And Nights Bright Days, a piece specially written for him. Inspired by the dreamlike poetry of Tang Xianzu, the piece shifts and transforms as it unfolds, echoing the dreams it is built around.
