Oscar® Week 2018: Dunkirk (12A)

A still from Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan achieves a war film that is both sweeping in its grandeur and deeply moving in its intimacy, in this riveting study of life on Dunkirk's beaches.

Hundreds of thousands of Allied troops are trapped on the beaches of France with their backs to the sea. They face an impossible mission to escape as the enemy closes in.

Told from three points of view – land, sea and air – Dunkirk unfolds with a palpable sense of dread and tension, evoking the very human and immediate desire to survive.

With cinematography from Hoyte van Hoytema (Interstellar), a score from Hans Zimmer, and an all-star supporting cast that includes Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Mark Rylance, as well as British newcomer Fionn Whitehead.
