Noah Baumbach

A Retrospective

A young woman on a train

In anticipation of the release of his latest film Jay Kelly, we present a selection of the Mumblecore master’s most celebrated work, spanning the last 20 years.

The Squid and The Whale (2005) celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is considered Baumbach’s breakout film. It tells the story of the breakup of a marriage in 1980s Brooklyn through the eyes of two teenage sons.

Real-life partners Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s cinematic collaborations reach a high in Frances Ha (2013), a romantic and nostalgic film about an awkward girl finding her path.

Marriage Story (2019) features heart wrenching performances by Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a divorcing New York couple struggling to take care of their child.

Sinking in to Baumbach's melancholic meditations on relationships and the pursuit of happiness, our retrospective brings together some of his best-loved works and an opportunity to enjoy them again on the big screen.
