John Galliano inspects one of his dresses

Kevin Macdonald documents the meteoric rise and crushing downfall of British fashion designer John Galliano, who rose to prominence before a number of anti-Semitic and racist remarks came to light.

John Galliano was the first British fashion designer to head a French haute couture house and was known for daring work which challenged the fashion world. However, he was also plagued by alcoholism and substance abuse.

In 2011, Galliano was convicted of ‘public insults’ based on origin, religion, race or ethnicity after two incidents in which he was filmed making anti-Semitic and racist remarks.

The film features extensive archive footage but is rooted in a series of fascinating, in-depth interviews with the designer, produced exclusively for this film. When covering his work and shows, the film is colourful, kinetic and beautifully captures his artistry.

A highly engaging portrait, expertly crafted to give audiences an insight into the creative mind of John Galliano, his life experiences and his creative endeavours.
