Mayra Andrade

Summer Jazz Series

Mayra Andrade fixes her hair, in black and white

Topical, tropical, travelling pop reflecting the life of Cape Verdean singer Mayra Andrade, inviting us to rediscover songs from across her discography, joined by Djodje Almeida on acoustic guitar.

Cape Verdean singer Mayra Andrade is arguably the front-runner of the many talents that have emerged from Cape Verde over the years.

Her vividly-hued, multi-layered music provides a warm and adventurous unpredictability as she sings in Cape Verdean creole, English and Portuguese. Andrade's pop spans the world’s entire vast sweep from Western romanticism, Southern sensuality, domestic reggae and African. It is topical, tropical, traveling pop that, in her words, is “music that reflected my life”.

For this show, Andrade, accompanied by her compatriot Djodje Almeida on acoustic guitar, invites us to rediscover songs from across her discography, from Navega (2006) to Manga (2019). Andrade gives us the opportunity to listen once more to some of her most beautiful songs, all written and composed by the artist herself.

This show is rated 14+ (under 14s will need to be accompanied by an adult)
