The Adventures of Prince Achmed (PG) + Live music from Lillian Henley

Family Film Club

Still from The Adventures of Prince Achmed

One of the very first animated feature films, this magical movie is an intricately made masterpiece of the silent era!

A stunning silhouette animation from 1926 with live music to accompany it. Come along for this achingly beautiful silent film, based on the stories from 1001 Arabian Nights and animated in silhouette by the original scissor-hand, Lotte Reiniger.

We are delighted to welcome back pianist Lillian Henley to the Barbican with a magical improvised keyboard accompaniment to Reiniger's classic. Lillian is a composer, performer, writer and an Associate Artist with the 1927 Theatre Company.

Content Information: Told in silhouette, this film is the first feature-length animation ever made - back in 1926 - and as with many fairy stories, features some outdated stereotypes of the era.

Adults can only come if they’re bringing a child, and children can only come along if accompanied by an adult. If you’re over 18, we’re afraid being a ‘big kid’ doesn’t count.

Booking is essential, so please book your tickets before attending.
