One Night in Miami (15)

Muhammad Ali and Jim Brown and a bar surrounded by people

In her feature directorial debut Regina King brings Kemp Powers' play to the big screen and four giants of American culture to back life.

On the night Muhammad Ali (then Cassius Clay) became heavyweight boxing champion of the word in February 1964, three other black American icons were there to watch him win and celebrate the achievement.

This powerful film, adapted by Kemp Powers from his own play, imagines what might have been said when Muhammad Ali (Eli Goree), Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben‑Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) find themselves alone in a hotel room together.

With powerhouse performances all round, the four men become heated as they discuss their roles in American culture, the Civil Rights movement and what it takes to be a successful black man in America.
