Joyce DiDonato’s ‘Favourite Things’ – operatic arias from the 17th and 18th centuries – are brought spectacularly to life by a true vocal superstar.

The sunlit voice and exuberant personality of mezzo Joyce DiDonato have made her a hot ticket here at the Barbican. For this fabulously theatrical recital, she’s accompanied by the Italian period instrument ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro (motto: ‘We have the guts!’), who regularly burn up the stage. They’re ideal partners for this most spirited of singers. 

‘There are some singers who really put on a show’ wrote The Arts Desk when DiDonato brought her last concept album, War and Peace to the Barbican. ‘Joyce DiDonato might just be the queen of this select band’. Her favourite things this time are unashamedly baroque but whether it’s the emotional theatre of Monteverdi, Cesti and Dowland, or the grand passions of Handel and Gluck, you can depend upon this team to bring the house down.
