Transpose: Barbican

CN Lester

Photo of a figure floating under water

Take an illuminating theatrical journey with artists from the queer and trans communities as they share poetry, music, video art and storytelling with a revelatory quality.

When the lights do down, an atmospheric space emerges for spine-tingling performances that communicate much about gender, sexuality and desire, with the added power to release true selves.

Curated by and featuring CN Lester, an activist, author and singer-songwriter, Transpose is presented once more at the Barbican following its successful debut here last autumn. New collaborators such as operatic soprano Alexandra Bork and classical pianist Nicholas Bonadies join young poet Jamie Hale whose confessional spoken word stole the hearts of the audience in 2016. Completing the evening is former Barbican Young Poet, and Artist in Residence at Tate Britain, Travis Alabanza whose performances have been called 'mesmerising' by The Guardian.

Artistic director of Trans Creative, and award-winning performer Kate O'Donnell will be directing Transpose.
