Shifting Power In The Current Cultural Landscape

Group of participants at a workshop around a table

Navigating the current cultural landscape can often leave us feeling adrift – treading water in an industry that has traditionally leaned heavily on established structures and hierarchies.

But what if we started asking questions? What if power shifted away from institutions into the hands of our communities? What if evaluations were centred around the voices of the people we work with? How can institutions build genuine relationships with communities?

Join us in conversation with the Barbican Communities Team, Community Impact Collective (CIC) and friends for a lively panel discussion and Q&A as we unpack these questions and more. In an free interactive afternoon session that is open to all, we’ll share our reflections from across our programme, from learning and growing within an institution, to delving into our latest chapter ‘Shifting Power’ (commissioned by the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as part of the Disrupt Toolkit 2022), as well as the value of experimenting with co-created evaluation methodologies such as the ‘Storytelling Methodology’ created by Arts at The Old Firestation.

Come along to connect with other values-led arts and cultural practitioners who we’re inspired by. Share your experiences of working in the sector, examples of best practise and inspiration in this free afternoon of discussion, networking and collaboration event.
