Suspended in midair, a solo acrobat moves beautifully to the passionate tones of Shostakovich’s music, played live on stage by the renowned Debussy String Quartet. Fourteen artists then tumble, spin and fly around the musicians in a delicate and savage dance.

Three of Shostakovich’s string quartets are found at the heart of this poetic and powerful new production. Opus, with its jaw-dropping physical feats, is both thrilling to watch and stirring to experience.

Circa, one of the best contemporary circus companies in the world, returns to the Barbican with its largest-ever staging, after the sold-out run of How Like an Angel in summer 2013.
'The magic of circus and music combines...A moment of unique grace' Les Echos (France)

1 hour 15 mins/no interval

Choreography and staging by Yaron Lifschitz
Musical direction by Debussy String Quartet
Composed by Dmitri Shostakovich (String Quartets No 11, 8, 5 and Adagio)
