'Attempted approaches - between people and between cultures. What works and what doesn’t. And time and again it can be sensed that love is what makes people great.'*

On a stage decorated with cherry blossoms and whale fins, the dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal explore with empathy and humour the sounds, sights, joys, and paradoxes of modern Japanese culture.

Ten Chi appears as though a series of postcards from Japan, incorporating images of food, birds and fish, Japanese hand gestures, kabuki, kimono, bonsai, samurai, Polynesian dance movement and even Japanese horror film.

Premiere 8 May 2004.

A piece by Pina Bausch in co-production with Saitama Prefecture, Saitama Arts Foundation and Nippon Cultural Centre.
