In tribute to the late avant-garde choreographer Merce Cunningham, the Barbican is proud to present the UK premiere of his final creation Nearly Ninety, an enthralling work first shown in New York on his 90th birthday, April 16, 2009.

Featuring music performed live by Takehisa Kosugi, John Paul Jones and Neokarma Jooklo Experience. This futuristic piece, which features a stunning structure designed by award-winning Italian architect Benedetta Tagliabue, boldly combines elements of dance, video, lighting and music to create a powerful performance that pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance.

Cunningham’s extraordinary company of dancers fluidly move between solos, duets and ensemble groupings with controlled precision and a haunting beauty.
