An evening of two exceptional UK premieres, both the fruits of the long-term relationship between Kronos and the composers. Innovator of minimalism, and one of the '1000 makers of the 20th century' Terry Riley’s new work, ‘The Cusp of Magic' was commissioned by Kronos to celebrate Riley’s 70th birthday. The eagerly-awaited Quartet No 3 by Henryk Gorecki (whose seminal work
Symphony No 3 of the 1980s sold more than a million records) is ‘a long, sombre piece full of shimmering stillness... made even more naked by the fiercely beautiful playing of the Kronos Quartet.' The Guardian

‘Without any question, '...songs are sung,' for me, is one of the most lyrical, poignant and far-reaching works ever written for string quartet. The music consoles as it faces, unflinchingly, the deepest aspects of life. It is music so personal that in its performance one feels the audience listening in to one’s very own soul and life.' David Harrington (Kronos)
