Amongst the most fecund of 20th-century composers, Heitor Villa-Lobos was as prolific in his choral works as he was in other genres and this concert presents a selection much of it music rarely-heard outside his native Brazil. The programme includes some of the works inspired by Brazilian folk traditions such as the Lendas Amerindias (or Amerindian Legends) the Latin sacred music composed for the Catholic liturgy including settings of the Ave Maria, Pater Noster, Bendite Sabedoria and other devotional texts and concludes with the work that is undoubtedly both his choral masterpiece and a classic of the modern choral repertoire: Bachiana Brasileira IX which is nothing less than a highly virtuosic prelude and fugue for unaccompanied voices.

The concert will finish at approximately 6.15pm
