Carlos Lopez-Real, saxophone Professor of Jazz
The School’s series of exclusive performances by senior professors gives public, staff and students the opportunity to see some of the country’s finest musicians perform in the intimate setting of the Music Hall.
Professor of Jazz Saxophone Carlos Lopez-Real takes to the stage with his quartet, Mandorla.
Mandorla brings together some of the UK's most creative musicians. Carlos Lopez-Real composes all the pieces but, as improvisation is integral to the performance, the contributions of all the band members are equally important in shaping the music.
Mandorla released their eponymous debut album in 2009, followed by a UK tour. After an extended break, the band recently reformed with a new line-up, drawing on collaborative musical relationships formed over many years in several other projects.
The music for this concert will be drawn from the first album together with new material that will form the basis of a second album. Brand new for this concert is a suite inspired by Russian folk melodies and Benjamin Britten’s 3rd cello suite.
