Schoenberg Verklärte Nacht Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings
Roman Simovic leader LSO Strings
Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht was inspired by Richard Dehmel’s poem of the same name in which a man forgives a woman for carrying another’s child: ‘You have transfused me with splendour, / you have made a child of me’. Tchaikovsky told his patron Nadezhda von Meck that he wrote his reflective Serenade ‘from inner compulsion…I am violently in love with this work’.
