In the presence of our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen
In 2009 Sir Colin Davis was awarded the Queen's Medal for Music. This gala concert features other gold medal winners and also marks the welcome return to the LSO of violinist Maxim Vengerov.
The concert includes the presentation of the 2012 Queen's Medal for Music, with a citation by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, and a short film celebrating past winners of the award.
Change of conductor Following his recent illness Sir Colin Davis has been advised by his doctors not to return to the podium before Christmas and sadly has had to withdraw from this concert.
Robin Ticciati, Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera from 2014, will now lead the Orchestra in the original programme of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with soloist Maxim Vengerov and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. [Posted 9 Nov 2012 6pm]
