What happens when you combine the UK's most dynamic and innovative chamber orchestra with a group hailed by Songlines as ‘Britain’s best Klezmer and Balkan music band’?  Come and find out on Sunday 18 November at LSO St Luke's, when Aurora Orchestra meets She'Koyokh for a unque collaboration.   Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 1 (in a new arrangement for chamber orchestra by Iain Farrington) is paired with klezmer and eastern european folk music in new orchestral versions, for a project inspired by Mahler's own love of folk music and its prominence in his first symphony.  Part of Aurora's award-winning cross-arts series New Moves, this project promises to be one of the musical highlights of the autumn.

She’Koyokh’s evolution spans the humble origins of busking at East London’s Columbia Road flower market to performing in the famous concert halls of Europe including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and London’s Southbank Centre. As well as several BBC TV and radio appearances, the group has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury and WOMAD, and were nominated as Best Group in the Songlines World Music Awards 2012.

Iain Farrington’s new chamber orchestra arrangement of the symphony follows in the footsteps of Schoenberg’s Mahler reductions of the 1920s, bringing intimacy and piercing clarity whilst stretching players to the furthest limits of virtuosity.
